Lynn Seears Day 2026

On a hot and sunny Sunday 12th July 2026, St Chads had their annual Lynn Seears Day.  Lynn Seears was the wife of a long gone St Chads bowler but why we have a trophy, and a social day, in her name has been long lost in time.   The Lynn Seears is played as a 'Drive' and  this year we had 26 bowlers taking part which meant 8 teams (6 triples and 2 Fours).

Prior to the bowling starting we had a 'spider' for which every bowler made a £1 entry fee, it was won by Debra Jestico who received £5 which she donated to our 2026 charity, The Stroke Association. The remainder of the proceeds (£21) were also donated to our 2026 charity.   Due to the heat (30C) the plan was to play 9 ends, followed by a 30 minutes refreshment break, another 9 ends and another 30 minute break where food was also available and then, a 5 end final played by the two top teams.   In the end only 7 ends got played in each half of the drive and the breaks extended to nearly 45 minutes but nobody really minded.

After all the ends had been played, the final was contested by the two top teams.   The team consisting of Janet Mansell, Sue Beazer Joe Falzon (skip) and Darren Waite were convincing victors over the runners-up team of Ken Greenwood, Kevin Rellis and Ken Alderton (skip).

Cydney
Our newest and youngest bowler, Cydney Green, it was her first competitive bowling game and she did very well showing a lot of promise.

A HUGE thank you goes to everyone who brought food and helped to put it out, it was a fantastic spread, including Indian snacks brought by our two new bowlers Harshad and Chandra.   Also, to Karen for organising the food and keeping everyone in check, to all the helpers who put the food out so that Karen could bowl, to Chris for manning the bar (he couldn't play due to a hand injury but that didn't stop him from enjoying to wield a megaphone to boss people about and keeping time!) and also to Kathy Waite for going to Kings Chase to retrieve Darren's bowling arm which he left there on Thursday evening...    Without all you unsung volunteers, this day wouldn't be the success it is so again A HUGE THANK YOU TO YOU ALL.
