RAL finals at St Chads BC

Today, 29th August 2023, the RAL finals (1st & 2nd place) and playoffs (3rd & 4th place) were played at St Chads BC. First and second place were contested by Clementswood (Pegram league) and Buckhurst Hill (Brignell league), third and fourth by St Chads (Pegram league) and Wanstead Central (Central)(Brignell league).

Both games were roller coasters but St Chads came out on top in the playoff and took 3rd place

The game between Clementswood and Buckhurst Hill could not have been closer. After the 18 ends the scores of both teams was tied so one more end had to be played. Buckhurst Hill were holding 2 shots when the skips walked up to take their turns. It was the last bowl from the Clementswood skip (Brian) who played the unfancied hand and trickled his bowl in to get the shot. This got the biggest cheer of the day! The Buckhurst Hill skip (also Brian) was not able to get in the head and Clementswood had won.

It really was a pleasure to watch, some very nice bowling on all 4 rinks so congratulations to Clementswood and St Chads for winning their matches, commiserations to Wanstead Central (Central) and Buckhurst Hill who came so close but just got edged out.

All clubs wish to thank Phil Fagelson for managing the RAL and the finals day, and for providing the food after the game.

St Chads BC thanks everyone who helped to put on the day including the green maintenance staff who worked very hard all season to keep the green in good condition, all the ladies who helped in the kitchen and with tidying up and the bar staff who kept everyone well watered.

We would also like to thank all the people who came to give their support but especially the St Chads amigos (you know who you are) who were very vocal in their support for St Chads but equally appreciative when Wanstead Central played good shots which was nice and very sporting.
