“Marathon Runners” John Torr and Keith Hutton complete a 30-end singles match.
On Friday September 10th 2021, John and Keith (pictured) competed in a near record breaking 30 end singles match, in the semi-finals of the Moultrie Cup.
The match started immediately after a 20-minute torrential downpour, which saw all four corners of the rink flooded in puddles, which rendered the going very heavy. Despite this, the two battled it out in a tight match, which saw quality bowling right to the very end of what turned out to be a two-and-a-half-hour game.
Both players won 11 ends each by a single shot, Keith won 5 ends by two shots, John won three ends by two shots. It was neck and neck throughout, with Keith only edging in front in the 24th end. At the end of the “normal” 21 ends, John was winning 15-12.
The record for a competitive singles match is 32, set in August 2006.
