Great 2-woods day
St Chads held it's annual 2-Woods day competition on Sunday 10th August, a lovely warm and sunny afternoon.
We had 23 bowlers taking part and play got under way at 1.45pm with a 'spider' which raised £23 for our current charity, Children's Liver Disease Trust. The spider was won by Paul Smeulders who very kindly donated his £5 winnings to the charity.
The first round was played as 6 mini leagues in which each player played every other player in their league over 5 ends. The 2nd round consisted of the top 2 players from each league making 6 pairs. These were whittled down further for round 3 into two semi-finals of a pair each which resulted in one pair playing to give a winner who was Paul Smeulders. It really was Paul's day, winning both the spider and the 2-woods competition!
In between the 2nd and 3rd rounds we enjoyed a small buffet and during which we also presented one of our longest serving members, Joan Tooke, with a Life Members award in honour of the service she has given to the club over many, many years
There was some outstanding play and we had a most enjoyable afternoon which finished rather later than intended at nearly 6pm, next year we will start by 11am!
A BIG THANK YOU goes to all the bowlers who took part, those who came as spectators and to those who provided towards and helped with the buffet, the organising and the laying out and putting way of the rinks, we couldn't do this without your help. A big thank you also to Darren Waite who stood in at very short notice for another member who wasn't able to play We only have a few photo's of the play because our main snapper was playing, of the semi-finalists and the award presentation.
