GPTL Gala Day
Today, 17th September, Gidea Park BC hosted the GPTL Gala Day in aid of Prostate Cancer UK. The weather forecast had been pretty dire and wet mats had been put out but the weather was kind and no significant rain fell. All the clubs who take part in the GPTL league were asked to send 5 players meaning there were 60 players, none of whom played with another player from their own club. The St Chads representatives were Jeff Freedman, Steve Aguis, John Kaylor, Ken Greenwood and Darren Waite. Everybody played 3 games and at the end there was a final played between the two top scoring triples. St Chads had a player in both teams, Jeff Freedman and Darren Waite and at the end of the final, Darren's team were victorious.
All the proceeds of the day (including an auction of two loaves of bread which raised £20 and a framed poster of West Ham legends that raised £100) went to Prostate Cancer UK, the final tally was over £2,700, the most raised in any one year since this gala started in 2019 and an amazing amount raised in one day for a very worthwhile cause.
For being the runner up of GPTL division 2, and promoted to division 1, Jeff was presented with an envelope containing £20 which we are going to donate to our 2025/2026 charity, The Stroke Society.
Well done all!
