Basildon and District invitation tournament - 17th August 2019
On 17th August 2019, Basildon and District celebrated their 40th anniversary in conjunction with the 10th year of sponsorship association with Cribbs & Sons.
The venue for the tournament was Hadleigh Bowls Club who made all the visiting teams very welcome. The format of play was 6 teams from the Basildon District league versus 6 visiting teams, each team playing 4 games of 7 ends. Scoring was 5 points for a win, 3 for a draw and 0 for a loss. In addition the number of ends won was added to your score. The winner was the team with most points, in case of tie then the number of ends won was a decider and if still a tie then the number of rink points won.
The St Chads team were John Torr (lead), Bernard Dowley and Dave Jarrold (skip), Bob Mead had to drop out due to his health. Third place went to Hadleigh Bowls Club with 34 points, runners up were St Chads with 38 points and the winners were Aldersbrook with 39 points. St Chads and Aldersbrook both had 4 wins but Aldersbrook won 1 more end than St Chads. Had St Chads won the same number of end then we would have won it hands down because we had by far the highest number of rink points scored.
Cribbs provided a very nice buffet at lunchtime and provided doggy bags afterwards for people to take food home.
The whole event was very well organised and everyone agreed that it had been a successful day.
Bernard.
Secretary St Chads Bowling Club.
